Walk your dog or go to jail

PET owners could be punished for not walking their dogs, under radical new laws being proposed by the RSPCA.

Under the legislation, they would have to regularly exercise dogs, ensure animals are not kept chained up and give their pets adequate food and water. If the proposal becomes law, dog and cat owners across Australia would face prosecution, fines of up to $12,000 fines for animal cruelty and magistrates could consider jail in extreme circumstances.

Animal Cruelty for not walking your dog????????????? What if you have a large property that is fenced in that the dog can roam free? It just seems like this is a step to far in legislating what people should or shouldn't do, I am glad I am not an Aussie.

Hopefully it will not get past the point of just being a suggested law

The purpose of the law is only protect you from the aggression of others, physical force, fraud and coercion.

Unfortunately liberals think that the state can make us better people by using law as a tool to socially engineer every aspect of our lives, to creating a nanny state.

The State, Law itself - is violence. And it is a battering ram and it's only purpose is to protect.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

I Wholeheartedly agree with this post.

There are too many people running around, trying to "control freak" everybody else around.

Sounds unrealistic...who is going to check to see if your are walking your dogs on a regular schedule or at all, are they expecting neighbors to drop a dime? My golden retriever gets plenty of exercise chasing the kids and is addicted to playing fetch in my fenced in yard. It is very cardiovascular. Are they going to start calculating BMI's? Some use chains for when they don' t have time to stand outside and wait for their loved pet to sniff every leaf and tree-so they utilize small chains for 30-40 minutes. I do not see the harm as long as the chain is not too heavy, there is adequate food and clean water, and the dog cannot become entangled in anything. Some people do not have fences-are you going to help them erect one for their pet? Not all can afford to put up a fence. With all the money you are planning to fine people the least you could do is help families treat their pet in the manner you see fit.

Aren't you all a bunch of inhumane Camel murderers anyway...?!!??!
