Consumers may be weary of hearing about what's wrong with their meat — from the calories to the E. coli to its heart unfriendliness. Unfortunately, there's another bit of bad news: Nearly a quarter of the meat and poultry sold in U.S. supermarkets is infected with nasty drug-resistant bacteria, too.

This is one of the many reasons why I've decided not to buy supermarket meat anymore. Good seed. Thanks!

Yeh shame on the government its all their fault.

Hey I got an idea. Lets make some more stringent guidelines to insure none of these antibiotics are administered to the cattle. That way the Staphylococcus can spread throughout the cattle and infect humans. Great population control.

Today you blame it on the government but tomorrow you say our government is too big.

We can't have it both ways.

A friend of mine's father used to be a butcher. Once she said to me, "whatever you do wash your meat off and then cook it thoroughly." This goes for locally raised meats, including organically raised, as well as supermarket meats. Same for fish, veggies, fruits, etc. It's a good idea to use antibacterial soap to scrub the kitchen sinks, dish cloths as well.
