A group of armed men have stoned and shot dead a woman and her daughter in Afghanistan's Ghazni province, security officials have told the BBC.

The officials blamed the Taliban, who they said had accused the women of "moral deviation and adultery".

The police said two men had been arrested in connection with the murder.

The attack was only 300m from the governor's office in Ghazni city, which is on a list of places to be transferred to Afghan security control.

Is this what the US and Australia are fighting for?

No, we are fighting for nothing but private defense contractor profits.

Oh Debora, we have plenty of that here already. How many murders are committed over cheating significant others every day in this country? Too many to count on both hands I'm afraid.

Z1P2 you may very well be right about that, we just don't need the acceptance of spousal abuse in America.

It is so sad how badly human beings treat one another, we are not suppose to be animals; however, many people's actions reveal that of animals.

Animals do not kill their mates; some animals mate for life. And animals don't kill for pleasure or greed, only for survival

That is true Maria, but there is nothing more brutal than an animal when it comes to survival and that is why we use that term. It is truly a shame when a human being is more like a wild animal than like the man he was created to be.

I still don't compare them to animals, I called them for what they are, evil, soulless people.

animals act through instinct; humans have conscience that tells them what's right or wrong

Maria, I understand what you are trying to say. They do have a soul and that soul has a desitny one day just as every humanbeing does. They will stand before God just as we all will according to the condition of our soul. Saved or Lost we will stand before God.

Animals do not kill their mates

This is false. After mating, the female praying mantis bites the head off of her mate and begins consuming his dead body.

After mating, the female black widow also kills and consumes her mate.

    animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/bugs/black-widow-spider/

The jumping spider also kills and eats it's mate, as does the redback spider, Chinese Mantis, scorptions, biting midges, and even South American Green Anacondas.

Sexual cannibalism offers a minor evolutionary advantage and therefore although it is not common, it is not unheard of either.

The article doesn't give the specifics of the alleged "moral deviation and adultery". It does say the woman was a widow. We Americans, and we Europeans believe in due process of law, and we have been horrified, beaten, taken to the cleaners by those who do not believe in due process of law. And we call them animals, evil soulless people, and worse. We in America allow people to conduct themselves in ways that would get them killed by the Taliban. But I have to ask, are we right in our conduct? Yes, the Taliban is evil and wicked, and happy is he who kills them. But I don't think we in America have much of a claim to the moral high ground.

      So true!!!

We commit murder in America and call it abortion! They are wrong in what they did and we have no room to talk.

Due process in the law!!! What a thought.

      levi,

does it matter, the standard in Taliban Afghanistan was that if a woman was showing her ankles, that this would happen. So take that as your benchmark of lunacy.

This is why I am pro-contraception and I honestly wish women would undergo psychiatric assessment to indicate if they're fit to be mothers. it would save many children's lives

Maria, I agree that not just prospective mothers, but prospective fathers should undergo counseling and assessment to see if they are fit to be parents. Unfortunately, here is the scenario such laws would create:

        • One option is that the person would be assessed when they are seniors in high school. Never mind that many times girls have had babies while in high school.
        • WHo gets to say you are fit or not?
        • If a high school senior is deemed unfit, what if he matures and becomes in fact, fit?
        • What happens if they are deemed unfit, and people being what they are, a pregnancy happens anyway?

Such a scenario is impossible at best, and would require a dictatorial government to implement. Attention would turn from moral and maturity issues to genetic and phsyical qualities.

But Maria, here's an idea: How about we quit making excuses for ourselves and take seriously our responsiblity to train up our children so that when the time comes, they are able to be "fit", and also be there when they are struggling. That's how it's supposed to be, and we have lost that as families separate and kids move across country for careers.

Exactly but unfortunately some parents think others should do their job and blame others when their kids go wrong. Parenting involves commitment and dedication and it is the most rewarding thing that can happen to a person - to see your child grow and develop and find his or her place in the world. I don;t think families separating is a problem if both parents make their children their priority - plenty of examples out there.

Right, Maria. THe problem as I see it is that parents who divorce teach their children, in many cases (not talking about physical abuse here) to cut and run when things get tough. I like what I heard in a movie once...I don't remember the movie or who said it...but those feelings we have when we first fall in love are designed to make us get together. Unfortunately many, if not most, people lose interest when those feelings fade. They were never meant to last! Instead what we get is deeper, stronger, not an insatiable thirst, but more like a source of life, like blood pumping through our veins. When I met my wife, I lost 14 pounds in one week, and was going to morning formation in the Army on 20 minutes of sleep. Now, I work 300 miles from home, and I miss her terribly. It's not like I can't breathe if I'm not in her presence, but half of me is 300 miles away, and I feel all disjointed and out of sorts. Maybe it's like have a cast on my leg, or having to wear an eyepatch. Things work, just not like they're supposed to.
ANd in the case of children, the father/mother dynamic is designed to work in tandem, together. Fathers are the judges, the lawgivers, tasked with teaching good choices and righteousness, the morality, while mothers are the mercy people, the unconditional love. No matter what may come, mother loves us (unless she's really broken herself). Those two together are what produce people who are whole. I'm not saying that if the Dad wigs out and runs off that the children cannot ever be whole, but the "fruit of" is always better than "in spite of", at least as far as that aspect of parenting is concerned. Two sets of parents can work out okay, in the life of a child, but once again, what do we teach the children when Mom and Dad divorce? Isn't it that life is tenuous at best? And if indeed it is tenuous, and we must learn that lesson, isn't it tenuous because of our faults?

Sure, Maria, but think about this: It's only after the fact. People are arrested for what they have DONE, and prosecuted for what they have DONE. We can't walk up to a child and slap his hand because we know he's going to get into the cookie jar before dinner. As in the above post, I maintain the better way is that we rightly conduct our familial responsibilities.

Levi777 " They were never meant to last ". And they were not meant to last so that the human gene pool would be ever growing and not limited, stunted. Though many can't see this, especially those who are married and deeply in love.

Not sure Darryl, if you are agreeing or disagreeing. I think the multiple wives of yesteryear, long ago, were so the human race would fill the earth. Could you imagine if everyone lived 800 years and had 97 children? I think we have filled the earth. Rather what I speak of is monogamy. If multiple husbands or multiple wives is the way it should be, then I point to society, where we have seen the disintegration of the family. Our children grow up aimless, drifiting in a world that is part opportunity and part that which seeks to enslave, and our children have no compass...no foundation...with which to make the better choice, nor even the sense of the need to make the better choice.
